Devotional
Warning Signs, Part 3
Not every situation the Lord warns us about happens right away. Sometimes He wants us to be aware of the potential for a problem well in advance of it happening and for us to, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 The next example exemplifies that principle.
Warning Signs, Part 2
In part one I wrote about how the Lord uses a series of messages to get my attention when He needs to tell me something. Over the next two parts of this devotional, I have a couple of personal stories I’d like to share that exemplifies this truth. One has already come to pass, while we wait for the second to manifest itself.
Warning Signs, part 1
Whenever the Lord needs to tell me something of significance, He will use a series of ‘messages’ to get my ‘attention’. That may seem a bit strange to some, however, it has been my experience that when something important is about to happen, good or bad, He will let me know in this manner.
Put away, Give away, Throw away
Many years ago, one of my sister-in-laws introduced our family to FlyLady.net The premise of the website is to help you get your house in order. They ask you one question, do you feel overwhelmed, overextended and overdrawn? If you answer yes, they can help.
Patience
Patience (or forbearing) is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Patience is the level of endurance one can take before negativity. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast. (Wikipedia)
Jesus the Carpenter
There are times when I truly long to be the pastor of a local assembly. That may sound a little crazy for most who know me, but’s it is true. Is a pastors’ job easy? Absolutely not…long hours, constant sacrifices, little thanks and often dealing with situations they can have little affect on, yet a calling like none other. Even give all of the difficulties, all of the pastors I know have expressed a deep satisfaction with what the Lord has asked them to do.
Suddenly
I was sitting in church listening to the pastor finishing up his message explaining that, no matter what, we should conduct ourselves in all things to glorify the Lord. This is what Paul said, Phil 1:27a ‘Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.’ In other words, regardless of what happens in life we need to react to those circumstances in a Christ like manner.
