Devotional
24/7
There are 2 statements I examine myself with on a continuing basis. 1) If I was put on trial tomorrow for being a Christ follower, would there be enough evidence to convict me? 2) Does hell know my name? Those are some pretty heady questions for one to examine themselves with, why would I do that?
The Work of God
Today, our lives have become very complex. We interact with others on a global scale in a world that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It never rests, and at times, will drive us to such distraction that we don’t know which way is up or what we are suppose to do next.
Uniqueness of Gifts
God gifts each one of us with a with a very specific skill set and personality that is uniquely wired for His purpose. I have a pastor friend who is called to minister to the broken in life. They proudly display the medical cross on their church sign symbolizing healing. The Lord draws those to his church that are in need of spiritual and physical healing. Their mission statement: ‘Win the lost, disciple the found, heal the broken and send the whole’.
It’s a Wonderful Life!
Yesterday, we started a new Christmas tradition at our home. It’s actually a mixture of old and new since we are now empty nesters. First, we held our first annual office party mixed with giving presents to our children and new grand baby. We had a grand time! After folks headed home to start their own celebrations, we decide to watch a few old holiday movies; Albert Finney’s ‘Scrooge’, ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ (first time I’ve ever watched the entire movie) and ‘White Christmas’.
Faithfullness
This morning I’m reminded of the faithfulness of our Lord. Four years ago, we started a journey with Him, one of discovery, one of anticipation, one of wonderment. In the site of what looked like eminent disaster, He started a business. Little by little, in His timing, He brought us the people and resources to build a company with capabilities that rival much larger media outlets. I can tell you this was not our plan. We seriously considered selling everything and pioneering a church in the mountains of upstate NY.
Cast Your Cares on Him
Last night I wasn’t feeling very good. I had a throbbing sinus headache and the medicine I took appeared to do nothing, so I knew my best bet was to head off to an early bedtime. Rest almost always allows my body to heal itself.
Our One True God
I had no idea what was missing in my life. There was ‘something’ I’d lost that I could not put my finger on. It was an unquenchable thirst, a hunger that could not be met. It did not matter what I did or how I tried to fill the void…it was never satisfied.
