Patience (or forbearing) is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. There are times when I truly long to be the pastor of a local assembly. That may sound a little crazy for most who know me, but’s it is true. Is a pastors’ job easy? Absolutely not…long hours, constant sacrifices, little thanks and often dealing with situations they can have little affect on, yet a calling like none other. Even give all of the difficulties, all of the pastors I know have expressed a deep satisfaction with what the Lord has asked them to do.
Suddenly
I was sitting in church listening to the pastor finishing up his message explaining that, no matter what, we should conduct ourselves in all things to glorify the Lord. This is what Paul said, Phil 1:27a ‘Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.’ In other words, regardless of what happens in life we need to react to those circumstances in a Christ like manner.
24/7
There are 2 statements I examine myself with on a continuing basis. 1) If I was put on trial tomorrow for being a Christ follower, would there be enough evidence to convict me? 2) Does hell know my name? Those are some pretty heady questions for one to examine themselves with, why would I do that?
The Work of God
Today, our lives have become very complex. We interact with others on a global scale in a world that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It never rests, and at times, will drive us to such distraction that we don’t know which way is up or what we are suppose to do next.
