It's not about making a point…let's make a difference

Warning Signs, Part 4

A few thoughts as we close out the series on warnings signs. It’s clear, if we are willing to listen, the Lord will speak to us at every turn on our road of life. What we must do is understand His signs and how to interpret them.

First, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverb 3:5-6. One of the biggest problems we have is trying to do something in our own strength. Especially if you’re a guy…we fix things, it’s our job. However, there are many times when we need to sit on our hands and wait when we see or hear something that needs to be fixed. Go to the Lord first, ask Him what you should do, He will answer…patience is priceless.

Second, when times get tough, your relationship with the Lord is paramount. Each time a trial or tribulation comes our way, I do not stop walking the path He has laid before me, but look to Him for direction and KEEP WALKING. He has proven faithful at every cross road of my life, even when I was unwilling to listen or walk with Him. His love for us is unimaginable, nothing can separate us from Him…nothing. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matt 6:33

Lastly, if you want to hear from our Father then you have to cultivate your relationship with Him. No different than with your spouse, you must spend time with Him through worship, His word and fellowship with other Christ followers. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” Proverbs 27:17 When you lead a road warrior life like myself, it takes creativity to stay connected. There are tons of online resources. Everything from praise and worship to the spoken word is available. There is a style of worship that is unique to each of us…find it, embrace it and connect with our Father, your life will be better for it.

Epilog: As I walk through life, sometimes the light dims and I start to wonder if things are coming to a close. What I have found is that signals the beginning of something new. Just like Christian in John Bunyan’s ‘A Pilgrim’s Progress’, life constantly changed as the Lord lead him on the path He chose for Him.  The choices are ours…we must choose wisely.
