It's not about making a point…let's make a difference

How Solid is Your Foundation?

Life is tough at times…that was the understatement of the day. It seems that today, life is more complicated, more involved and has more moving parts than ever before. Instant gratification has become the norm in our ‘microwave’ society. While the world has taught us what it says we should expect in life, it has done a very poor job of teaching us how to handle adversity, how to wait or how to persevere. The world would have us point our finger at someone or something to explain why we did not get our way or did not reach our goal. We have become of society unwilling to accept responsibility for our actions.

There is almost no thought of God and what His plan may be for your life. God, and His ways, have become an inconvenience to most. I look back over the past several years and see a path filled with heart ache, difficulties, broken promises and an array of other problems…the glass is half empty. I also look at that same path and see the opportunity for new beginnings, kindness, love, hope and a willingness to begin again and again…the glass is half full.

Life is about perspective. If we build our lives with Jesus as the foundation, we can stand against the storms. I have found Him to be faithful. He is my strong tower, my hiding place, He has never forsaken me even when I deserved it. Jesus tells us in John 33:16 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Are the problems of life pressing in on you? Are you having difficulties dealing with the constant barrage of the ‘me society’? Then start today by rebuilding your life with Jesus as the foundation. I know it was the single best decision I’ve ever made. I learned it’s never to late to start over, especially when it comes to our relationship with our heavenly Father.

Blessings

TGIF Today God Is First Volume 2 by Os Hillman

“At the king’s command they removed from the quarry large blocks of quality stone to provide a foundation of dressed stone for the temple” (1 Kings 5:16-17).

Several years ago I visited Jerusalem, the ancient city in Israel where Jesus walked. It was an incredible experience. One of the most memorable things I saw was the actual stones used to build the foundation of the temple. These stones lay beneath the ground and can be accessed only by going into an underground tunnel.

The stones are massive and they are perfectly rectangle in shape. The Bible says the stones were moved to the temple area in a quiet manner in respect of the Holy site. It says the foundation was of a “quality stone.”

All these structures, from the outside to the great courtyard and from foundation to eaves, were made of blocks of high-grade stone cut to size and trimmed with a saw on their inner and outer faces. The foundations were laid with large stones of good quality, some measuring ten cubits and some eight. Above were high-grade stones, cut to size, and cedar beams. The great courtyard was surrounded by a wall of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams, as was the inner courtyard of the temple of the LORD with its portico (1 Kings 7:9-12).

Do you see the effort put into the type and quality of stone that would be used to build the temple of God?
In order to achieve anything worthwhile in life you must lay a quality foundation. Everything else is going to be impacted if that foundation is not laid with the best materials and the finest craftsmanship. The Bible says that Jesus must be the foundation from which we build everything in our lives ( I Cor. 3:11). Anything else will result in a weak foundation.

Are you building on a solid foundation that will last? If not, begin today to shore up your foundation.
