DIVERSITY IN THE BODY, GIFTS

Not everybody can sing or play an instrument or speaks eloquently or is good with kids or the youth or the 20 somethings or understands technology. Each individual is equipped with a given set of skills. Very rarely do you meet some who does all of the above well less alone someone who can do more 3 or 4 of these things with excellence. However, it’s been my experience that we can all do at least one thing well.

“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.” 1 Cor 12:12-14

During my military years I attended several levels of leadership training. There were 4 in total with each one having it’s unique affect on me. I attended my third level program in San Antonio, TX in 1988. I remember a conversation with my instructor during one of the sections we covered about skills and abilities. I don’t remember the exact conversation only what I said in it’s course, “I believe we can only do one thing with greatness, we each have an ability we can capitalize on.” The instructor disagreed at the moment, but later decided there was merit in what I had said.

If you look at history, it will teach you this simple reality. Ronald Regan and John Kennedy were leaders with the ability to inspire us to reach greatness as a nation. Einstein was one of the greatest minds in modern science. Thomas Edison a great inventor, D.L. Moody a gift apologist and the list goes on. To a person, each had one skill they capitalized on to move forward in life and have impact.

In the body of Christ we are no different. The Lord has gifted each of us with a skill that will help advance the Kingdom. Do you know what your gift is? If not, then go to the Father and ask Him what you should do.
